This week's single dip into politics

· 09/01/2005 09:48 PM by Steve Gigl

I can now fairly safely add to my list of things that someone can say to single themselves out as a Person Not to Be Listened to Ever Again (Also known as the “Oh. So you’re an idiot.” list.)

Previous examples:

  • “It’s a war for oil!”
  • “It’s a war based on lies!”
  • “I’m not anti-Semitic, I’m anti-Zionist.”
  • “The media isn’t biased to the left, it’s [centrist/conservative].”
  • “Halliburton!”
  • “The Bush Recession”
  • “The Clinton Boom”
  • “Kyoto!”
  • “My party is perfect.”
  • “The other party is evil.”

And now, the newest example:

  • “Katarina was so bad because of global warming!”

UPDATE 9/7: Edited to remove reference to LexisNexis search, which was about a different topic that got edited out of this post.

  1. Oh, tell me about it. I’ve spent an unhealthy amount of time on left-leaning blogs that are either A) blaming the levee breaches on Bush somehow (really) or B) saying that this was inevitable because of global freakin’ warming. I wonder sometimes if most leftists unconsciously despise humanity and would only be happy if pandas ruled the earth.

  2. You’re a braver man than I, sir. I’m a news addict, but I know my limits, and spending time in places like that would likely leave me dead on the toilet after my head exploded.

And you point out one of my favorite contradictions on the left; people who deride “Republicans” for abandoning the noble poor people of the world, then turn around and talk about how we’re no better than the other animals and don’t have a right to change our habitat. Uh, OK, I’ll take you seriously right after I see a lion donate part of a kill to a down-on-their-luck pride (or, for that matter, a lion that shows compassion and/or remorse for the animals it kills).
